My Legacy is pleased to announce that Kathrina Bentley has been elected as Chairperson of My Legacy and she shares plans for 2019 with My Legacy charities.

Dear My Legacy Members

I hope this update finds you well. I am delighted to take on the position of Chair and thanks to my fellow Board Members for electing me. I have been a member and involved with My Legacy for seven years now. I am very passionate about the 3rd sector and will do my very best over the next two years to build on the success of previous years.

The first announcement to make is a new My Legacy event – LegacyFest 2019. Please save the date 8th of May (at the Morrison Hotel in Dublin). We have organised a super line-up including international legacy expert, Stephen George. More details to follow.

Secondly, we have decided to expand My Legacy Week to My Legacy Month! Our annual awareness campaign will be running over the month of November. The extended time will give more opportunities for all stakeholders, including media, to support our campaign. A Calendar of Events for the year ahead will be circulated in the coming weeks once we finalise a few pieces.

We have just published the latest Legacy Research Report compiled by My Legacy in partnership with Persuasion Republic. Our sincere thanks to all the charities who took part in the research and also our focus group. Sharing knowledge and insights is essential for all charities to develop and grow. I strongly encourage you to share this research with your colleagues and Board Members.

Our membership continues to grow and we welcome seven new members since our last update; Cliona’s Foundation, Diabetes Ireland, Irish Skin Foundation, L’Arche, Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital Research Foundation, Unicef and Fighting Blindness.

It is an exciting time for legacy giving in Ireland generally and notably with the incredible generosity of Ms Elizabeth O’Kelly gifting €30m to six Irish charities. Her kind actions have no doubt have planted a seed in the Irish psyche and we hope everyone will consider leaving a legacy gift to charity to help the generations to come.

Looking forward to meeting all our charity members at LegacyFest 2019 and please feel free to contact me directly at any stage during my tenure.

Best regards.

Kathrina Bentley
